I was trying to ignore the fact that Scully was in it :P She was (of course) the best thing in it. I've only really liked Pegg in Hot Fuzz, and I'd had a really bad week before I saw it in the cinema and needed a chuckle, so I think it's more situation than anything else.

Stone, they're showing WTC as well, I have no desire to watch it more…

Not a single word on Scully in HOW TO LOSE FRIENDS ... ? She rocked!
I thought the film was ok, entertaining sure, but Pegg is not really a talented comedien.

It's actually quite sad that Oliver Stone who used to have a strong opinion and great talent to convey it (the vietnam stuff, Nixon, JFK) does all this fluffy stuff now. WO more…

There are not many occupations women are underrepresented in today. Except movie directors it applies to rock-musicians, theatre-directors and top-scienctists. There are as few female nobel-prize-winners in science as female oscar-winners in the directors category.

I don't know what reasons are responsible for that phenomenon... more…

Thanks for that Ib, it took me longer to write than a lot of films are in length :P Took me the best part of half a day and the actual writing of the review to make me realise I liked it more than I thought I did :D more…

Re: the Shepian niggles - I'm told it's all part of the charm (or at least ... I tell myself :D). I was more worried about Whishaw, who I have no time for as an actor, but my love of Keats is clearly greater than my disdain for Whishaw. They make an absolutely beautiful couple.

I saw this at the cineworld on Broad Street - dare you Tou more…

Phew! *wipes sweat from brow* Had a feeling you were going to LOATHE this film (taking into consideration your "meh"-ness when met with Campion's other work :P), so it's refreshing to see, ignoring a few textbook Shepian "niggles" here and there, such a positive review! :D Wonderful write up that's made me even more excited now! Still...it's not co more…

Oooh, someone has seen MOURNING BECOMES ELECTRA? Didn't I tell you that you will be disappointed? Russell's very good but you're right - given the reputation it's a letdown. Paxinou rocked.

I agree on Chuck and Larry! In spite of my general hatred of all things Sandler, I watched it because I wanted to ogle Jessica Biel, it really wasn't anywhere near as bad as I expected it to be! Like you say, I wouldn't give it much thought or it'd probably fall to pieces, but there in the moment it was perfectly watchable.

Gaberial Byrne is a great actor and he hooked me to this series to the point of recording every one and watching over and over again. I wrapped my own emotions into those of the characters totally relating to their problems. Maybe because we all could benefit from the kind of "therphy" that is seen in 'In Treatment". I am so disappointed that HBO c more…

I have to say that the original with Ayelet Zurer and Lior Ashkenazi is absolutely fantastic. I purchased it off of eBay (does not have English subtitles though).
Ayelet Zurer character goes through every possible emotion there is, I see why she took home the Best Actress award for this performance.

I get what you mean. I was watching one week (5 episodes) per day and I couldn't have enough of it! It's quite amazing that actor like Byrne found a role of his lifetime on TV. But prepare yourself for Alison Pill, I'm warning you. I think TV is the right place to be for actors at the moment. Oh, if you like good acting I'd like to recommend you TV more…

Oh I've watched far too much of it in the last 24 hours (embarrassingly so), it's absolutely compelling - even though they're showing it every day on tv here I raided it online and am absolutely hooked (even though I'm sure I'll still catch it on tv most of the time). I've always liked Byrne, but it's really great to see him have something he can r more…

"In Treatment" is an amazing series. The acting on it is simply superb. If you liked Melissa George then I'm sure as hell that you will like Mia Wasikowska too (both sadly missed on Emmy nominations because they don't have a name recognition). This show is the best showcase for an acting that any actor could have dreamed of. But the best of the bes more…

It's the three-ring circus thing, if you don't like the clowns you'll like the animals, if you don't like the animals you'll like the high flying acts, etc.

With 500 Days of Summer, it's one of these films which I like but has no consistency to the storytelling. So I went with that term because due to the fractured nature of the narrat more…

So someone else has finally seen Water Lillies, eh? By the way, Acquart plays the larger of the three girls - its actually Adele Haenel who is the frail, tiny one (the most lead, I thought). Anyways, its a slow burner that whizzes by with the sexual tension. I really liked it. more…

Too bad about THE MIST. I thought it was the best horror film I've seen in years ... of course the decline in the little quality that genre used to have, helped me to think that.

I was so, so surprised by it. I saw it at a live-link-up on Monday with the premiere in London, but didn't stay afterwards for Mendes's Q&A because I enjoyed it so much I didn't want any waffling on about it to distract me. The trailer undersells it so much, but I think in a way that's good because it saves all the really hilarious stuff for th more…

I read this last night and was so inspired by it that I went out and watched this movie when my anticipation for it had totally sunk after the lukewarm reception it got! I loved it!
